What is bromantan?

Bromantan (English. bromantane) is a synthetic chemical compound classified as an adamantane derivative, developed and described in the second half of the 20th century in the course of research on substances that affect mental and physical performance under conditions of increased environmental stress. In terms of molecular structure, it combines an adamantane skeleton with an aromatic ring containing a bromine atom, which determines its characteristic pharmacokinetic properties and ability to interact with the central nervous system. The high chemical stability and pronounced lipophilicity of the molecule have made bromantane a useful model compound in studies of modulation of neurochemical processes bypassing classical CNS stimulatory mechanisms.
