What is Ipamorelin?
Ipamorelin is a synthetic pentapeptide with the sequence Aib–His–D-2-Nal–D-Phe–Lys–NH₂. It represents a selective growth hormone secretagogue analogue, containing atypical amino acid residues (Aib and D-amino acids) that increase metabolic stability. This compound was developed as part of research into GHS-R1a receptor ligands (the ghrelin receptor). Due to its precisely defined structure and good solubility in an aqueous environment, Ipamorelin has become a useful model for studying GHS receptor-dependent peptide signalling.
In experimental studies, Ipamorelin has been used to analyse mechanisms related to GHS-R1a receptor activation, the modulation of G protein-dependent signalling pathways, and cellular response in in vitro and in vivo models. Its effect on the expression of selected genes regulated by ghrelin pathways and on signalling processes in experimental systems has been described. Attention has been drawn to its selective interactions with G protein-coupled receptors and its indirect influence on signalling homeostasis under preclinical conditions.
Due to its unambiguously defined chemical structure and high reproducibility of observed biological effects in experimental models, Ipamorelin is used as a research tool in molecular biology, experimental endocrinology and experimental pharmacology. In scientific literature, it is also utilised as a reference GHS-R1a receptor ligand for the evaluation of signalling processes and for the validation of analytical methods used in the study of short bioactive peptides.
