What is GHK-Cu?

GHK-Cu (glycyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine copper(II)) is a low-molecular-weight peptide-metal complex consisting of a GHK tripeptide (Gly-His-Lys) coordinated with a copper(II) ion. This compound occurs naturally in mammalian organisms, where it has been identified in plasma, saliva and extracellular matrix. Its structure and physicochemical properties were characterised in detail in the second half of the 20th century in the context of research into metal-binding peptides and their role in regulating cellular processes. Due to the stability of the complex and its good solubility in aqueous media, GHK-Cu has become a useful model in studies of peptide signalling and metal ion homeostasis.

In experimental studies, GHK-Cu has been used to analyse mechanisms involved in the regulation of gene expression, extracellular matrix metabolism and the cellular response to oxidative stress. Its effects on the modulation of metalloproteinase enzyme activity, expression of growth factors and structural proteins, as well as on processes related to cell proliferation and differentiation in in vitro and in vivo models were described. Attention was also paid to its ability to participate in redox reactions and indirect effects on pro- and antioxidant balance under experimental conditions.

Due to its unambiguous chemical structure, the high reproducibility of the observed biological effects and its natural occurrence in mammalian organisms, GHK-Cu is used as a research tool in molecular biology, cell biology and biochemistry. In the scientific literature, it is also sometimes used as a reference peptide in studies of extracellular matrix remodelling, regulation of gene expression and in the validation of analytical methods used in the analysis of short peptides and peptide-metal complexes. The preparation is intended for research work only.

How to prepare a solution for laboratory testing?

  1. Remove the caps from both vials.
  2. Apply spirit to a cotton swab and disinfect the elastics in both vials.
  3. Using an insulin syringe, pour 3ml of bacteriostatic water into the powder vial (along the wall of the vessel)
  4. Roll the vial in your hands or spin the vial making a vortex until the solution dissolves. This activity can be done vigorously, it is important not to foam the solution with strong shaking.
  5. The solution prepared in this way gives us a concentration of 2.5 mg of GHK-Cu peptide for every 0.15 ml of solution, which should be stored in the refrigerator from now on.

Storage and transportation

In dry form, the peptide should be stored at room temperature away from direct sunlight. Even longer transport by courier will not affect the stability and quality of the product.

In wet form (after the solution has been prepared), the peptide should be refrigerated at all times and used within 30 days.
