What is Epithalon?

Epitalone, also known as Epithalone, is a synthetic peptide consisting of four amino acid residues (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly), developed as a stable counterpart to fragments of natural pineal-derived peptides. This compound has been more extensively described in research work since the 1990s, where it has served as a target for analyses of regulatory processes linked to biological rhythms and mechanisms for maintaining intracellular balance. Its small molecule size, well-defined chemical structure and good solubility in aqueous media have led epithalon to be used as a model compound in studies of peptide signalling outside classical neurotransmission systems.

In preclinical studies, epithalon has been used to analyse processes related to the control of cell proliferation, adaptability to stress factors and the maintenance of functional stability of cells during long-term cultures. In the scientific literature, its effects on the regulation of specific gene expression, modulation of the activity of enzyme systems involved in cellular metabolism, as well as potential effects in the area of mechanisms related to telomere length and telomerase activity under experimental conditions, have been indicated. These observations were carried out both in in vitro models and in selected in vivo studies.

Due to its precisely defined molecular composition and the good reproducibility of the results obtained in experimental systems, epitalone is used as a research tool in molecular biology, cell biology and experimental gerontology research. The peptide is also sometimes used as a reference compound in analyses of gene expression, cellular adaptive processes and in analytical method validation procedures designed to study short regulatory peptides. The formulation is intended for research use only.

Product quality (Epitalon 10 mg + bacteriostatic water)

Our Epitalon peptide product has been tested by a certified Polish laboratory. The results can be seen in the product gallery

What does the product package (Epitalon 10 mg + bacteriostatic water) contain?

The ordered product will come packaged in a sturdy tube resistant to transport damage, and inside you will find:

  • Sterile powder vial of Epitalon acetate 10mg + (peptide stabiliser - mannitol)
  • Sterile vial with 3 ml bacteriostatic water (0.9% benzyl alcohol)

The product has an expiry date of a minimum of one year and a maximum of two years from the date of dispatch - depending on the batch.

The safety data sheet (SDS) for this product can be downloaded here

How to prepare a solution for laboratory testing?

  1. Remove the caps from both vials.
  2. Apply spirit to a cotton swab and disinfect the elastics in both vials.
  3. Using an insulin syringe, pour 1.5 ml of bacteriostatic water into the powder vial (along the wall of the vessel)
  4. Roll the vial in your hands or spin the vial making a vortex until the solution dissolves. This activity can be done vigorously, it is important not to foam the solution with strong shaking.
  5. The solution thus prepared gives us a concentration of 1 mg of Epitalon peptide for every 0.15 ml of solution, which from now on must be stored in the refrigerator

Storage and transportation

In dry form, the peptide should be stored at room temperature away from direct sunlight. Even longer transport by courier will not affect the stability and quality of the product.

In wet form (after the solution has been prepared), the peptide should be refrigerated at all times and used within 30 days.

If there are problems with the solubility of the peptide then:

  • Temporarily heat the solution to 25-37 degrees celcius (safe for the peptide)
  • Add more solvent
  • Several times the solution is slowly drawn into a syringe and put back into the vial.

These steps solve 90% solubility problems.

Research use of the product (Epitalon 10 mg + bacteriostatic water)

The formulation is intended exclusively for in vitro research work and acts as a specialised reagent for use in molecular and cellular experiments focusing on regulatory mechanisms and maintenance of cellular homeostasis. In a laboratory setting, it is used in, among other things:

  • analysis of the interaction of short peptides with specific cellular markers and structures involved in the regulation of intracellular processes,

  • to assess the effect on expression levels of regulatory factors in cell cultures with different phenotypic profiles,

  • studying changes in protein expression and the activity of potential signalling cascades linked to the cellular response to stress factors and environmental conditions,

  • supporting validation procedures, comparative analyses and optimisation steps carried out in molecular, biochemical and cell biology research.
