What is Semax peptide?

Semax is a synthetic heptapeptide with the sequence Met-Glu-His-Phe-Pro-Gly-Pro (MEHFPGP), designed as a stable analogue of the adrenocorticotropic hormone fragment ACTH(4-10), extended with a characteristic motif Pro-Gly-Pro C at the end. It was developed in the late 1980s and early 1990s at Russian neuroscience and pharmacology research centers as a tool for studying the functioning of the central nervous system.

In experimental studies, Semax was used as a model peptide to analyze the mechanisms regulating neuronal plasticity, stress responses, and learning and memory processes. Its effects on the expression of selected neurotrophins were described, including elements of the pathway BDNF/TrkB in the hippocampus, as well as on the activity of enzymes related to cholinergic neurotransmission. Attention has been paid to its neuroprotective profile under conditions of hypoxia and ischemia of neural tissue, as well as its ability to modulate the processing of cognitive stimuli.

Due to its unambiguously defined chemical structure and high reproducibility of biological responses in experimental models, Semax is used in molecular biology, neurochemistry and analytical method validation studies. It is also sometimes described in the scientific literature as a ligand that interacts with melanocortin receptors, which further expands its value as a research tool.

What does the product package (Semax 1%, 60 mg) contain?

The ordered product will come packaged in a sturdy tube resistant to transport damage, and inside it you will find:

  • Vial with powder (Mannitol + Semax acetate 60 mg + 5 mg GHK-Cu)
  • Vial of saline 6ml
  • Atomizer (for spraying a portion of the solution onto a laboratory slide)
  • Funnel (helps pour solvent into the peptide vial)

It is worth noting that the lyophilized powder will be white and blue in color due to the presence of the GHK-Cu peptide. The volume of powder in the vial may seem small, but this does not affect the peptide content measured in milligrams.

How to prepare the solution for the laboratory test?

  • unscrew the stoppers from both vials
  • Transfer the liquid from the liquid vial to the powder vial
  • cap the vial with the powder with the original stopper
  • Mix carefully (no sudden movements)
  • unscrew the cap, remove the ring from the seal (important to keep it tight) and screw on the atomizer

We obtained 6 ml of 1% solution, which is enough for about 42 atomizer presses of 1.4 mg of Semax.

Storage and transportation

In dry form, the peptide should be stored at room temperature away from direct sunlight. Even longer transportation by courier will not affect the stability and quality of the product.

In wet form (after preparing the solution), the peptide should be in the refrigerator all the time and used up within 40 days.

Research use of the product (Semax 1%, 60 mg)

The product is intended for research use only under conditions in vitro, where it serves as a specialized reagent for molecular and cellular analyses targeting neuron-associated signaling systems. In laboratory models, it is used for:

  • Studies of the interactions of short peptides with selected cellular markers and receptors associated with neuronal signaling,

  • Assessing the effects on the expression of regulatory and neurotrophic factors in cell cultures,

  • analyses of the size and distribution of droplets produced by the atomizer, including by depositing them on a microscope slide;
